Qi Gong

Qi Gong (pronounced chee-gong) has been practiced for thousands of years in China. It is a science of cultivating the body’s internal energy called Qi. It is practiced to restore one’s health and promote vitality and longevity by the use of slow moving exercises and coordinated breathing. In Chinese hospitals,  qi gong is a primary method used for rehabilitation.

Here is a simple practice you can do. With feet slightly apart rock your weight forward and backwards, from the balls of the feet to the heels. As you rock back, feel the energy moving to the back of your body. As you rock forward, feel energy moving to the front of the body. This would be feeling the energy on a horizontal plane, from front to back. On a vertical plane as you rock back feel the energy drop down to your heels. As you rock forward feel the energy rise. With practice this will get easier to feel. A practical use of this would be to rock back and forth with emphasis of rocking toward your heels to lower the qi, which can have a calming effect on the body and mind.
